Brian Erb, FLVC’s director of Library Support and Training, conducted a poster session presentation on the statewide OpenAthens initiative during the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Denver, Sept. 29 - Oct. 2, 2026. The annual conference regularly attracts more than 4,000 attendees from across all areas of higher education, including senior IT leaders, campus executives, academic decision-makers, educators, and industry technology partners.
FLVC recently implemented OpenAthens, a platform that streamlines authentication and access to electronic library resources. OpenAthens enhances access and discoverability of electronic research resources while providing a cost-effective approach to managing e-resource authentication across Florida’s 40 public colleges and universities.
As part of the implementation, FLVC also deployed the OpenAthens Reporting API, providing participating institutions with expanded capabilities to analyze resource usage and connect library activity with student success.
Erb's EDUCAUSE presentation focused on how Florida institutions are using the Reporting API to strengthen library assessment and better understand how electronic resources are being used. The initiative demonstrates how statewide technology and collaboration can provide institutions with tools to improve services while supporting informed decision making.
