When: February 19 & 20, 2020
Where: Hilton Daytona Beach, Oceanfront Resort
What: The Florida Virtual Campus is excited to host the FLVC Summit. During this summit, we will take a deep look into the current state of higher education and explore strategies for the future. FLVC has invited guest speakers from around the country to share some of the best thinking and success stories that can help us all navigate the future of higher education.
Where We Are
Colleges and universities are facing increased criticism brought on by increasing tuition and fees, and accompanying student loan debt, changing workforce needs, significant demographic shifts resulting in declining enrollments, and a loss of public confidence. Many assert that the current higher education business model is unsustainable in its current form. As a result, there has been a significant increase in mergers, acquisitions, and closures of postsecondary institutions; declining enrollments; loss of state funding and the suggestion that the online education market has become saturated in some areas of study.
What to Expect
This summit will explore and consider the changing context for postsecondary education and the threats to the current business model by bringing together some of the best thinking and successful strategies for navigating this dynamic and challenging period in Florida education. Summit attendees will participate in a range of interactive presentations and discussions which will focus on:
- Shifting demographics and enrollments
- Understanding the impact of changing federal policy
- The current state of online education and emergent instructional models
- Considering "the degree” in light of the movement toward more discrete and skills-based credentials
- How colleges and universities are already changing to meet increased competition
- What the future might bring
Summit participants will engage with some of the best thought leaders available, enjoy time to discuss and share ideas with colleagues on the major issues and discover relevant resources that can be used in addressing their own local institutional challenges. In addition, a major goal of the summit is to help identify specific topics for further investigation and follow-up after the summit.
